This majestic large covered jar (often referred to as a vat) is a classic piece of Ming Dynasty style Hongwu period craftsmanship, standing 55 cm high and measuring 36 cm wide.

The lid is elegantly crafted to resemble a fluttering lotus leaf with a scalloped, upturned rim, topped by a lotus bud finial. The main body is beautifully decorated in underglaze red (copper red), featuring the traditional “Three Friends of Winter” motif: gnarled pine trees, resilient bamboo, and blossoming plum branches.

The piece is intricately bordered with a ruyi cloud collar at the neck, a band of chrysanthemums on the shoulder, and stylized petal lappets with scrolling floral designs at the base.
